Not all community events are created equal, and Ferncourt School in Marrickville certainly knows how to put on events that are a cut above the rest.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the Ferncourt Family Fair Day promises to be bigger and better than ever before. This highlight of the community events calendar is an old-fashioned affair, with a thoroughly modern twist, celebrating the best of the Inner West, with something to delight both young and old.
There'll be plenty of treats for Mum for Mother's Day, including gorgeous hand-made treasures from the legendary craft stall; plants, flowers and gift hampers. Kids can also give their gift the personal touch by hand-crafting something special at the badge and card-making stall, or including a unique photo taken in the pop-up photo booth.
Other stalls include pre-loved books, a White Elephant, and delicious edible treats. And, if that's not enough, there'll be lots of prizes to be won on the traditional Tombola, The fair will also have a silent auction with a range of big-ticket items up for grabs. Kids will be kept entertained with rides, mega-slime, face-painting, dress ups, a lucky dip, and lots of other stalls to spend their pocket money at.
If all that fun, entertainment and shopping gets tiring, visitors will can take the weight off their feet and settle in for a traditional Devonshire tea with high-quality scones and jam, set in the shade of Ferncourt's 1886 heritage-listed administration building.
Other delicious treats, such as fairy floss, pancakes, gelato and baked goods will keep sweet tooths satisfied, while savoury meals from paella and Vietnamese and Indonesian food will keep tummies full. And, no fair is complete without a sausage sizzle.
